Direct Line offers pet insurance for jet-setting pets

insurance-review/">Direct Line has outlined some aspects of its pet insurance which may apply to the more globe-trotting of our furry friends.

Travel insurance may be added to existing pet insurance policies providing the animal has had all of the necessary vaccinations, Direct Line claimed.

Lindsay Wienand, spokesperson for Direct Line, said: "Some of the basic things we cover are vet fees - obviously if your dog is taken ill abroad or your cat."

"If the passport goes missing we will cover that," she added, noting that most people take the cover for vet fee purposes.

Furthermore, if holidays are cancelled because a pet becomes too ill to travel, a refund may be available via a pet insurance claim.

However, customers who go ahead with their holiday are warned that their policy is likely to cover costs only while they are abroad.

Pet insurance from Direct Line starts from £8 a month for dogs and £6 a month for cats, with a ten per cent discount for subsequent animals covered by the same household.
