Post Office warns of "no-go for snow" travel insurance

Travel insurance policies may be "no-go for snow", according to Post Office.

Experts from the company are warning that travel insurance policies may not include cover for winter sports such as skiing.

If resorts are closed due to a lack of snow, Post Office suggests there may be a minimum time limit before travel costs to a neighbouring resort may be recouped.

The financial services provider is advising travel insurance customers to check the small print of their policies to see if resorts must be closed for 12 or 24 hours before a claim may be made.

Kevin McAdam, head of travel at Post Office, said: "So far, this ski season has been among the worst on record in Europe with some areas having little or no snowfall."

"This may leave people without the holiday they would have wanted and looking for some form of compensation," he added.

Mr McAdam suggested that travellers should collect any relevant evidence which may be available to support an insurance claim on returning to the UK.

Winter sports travel insurance from Post Office covers trips of up to 90 days, while the company suggests its annual insurance cover with additional ski cover for longer holidays.
