"All owners who are considering taking their pets abroad on holiday should act now," commented Vicky Watson of Halifax Pet Insurance.

In related news, a report on travel insurance published by the British Insurance Brokers Association (Biba) has revealed that the majority of consumers support government plans to regulate the travel insurance industry.

The research showed that 97 per cent of consumers in the UK back the plans and additionally revealed that 68 per cent of regulated travel insurance providers gave advice about policy limits to their customers.
