Vet bills on the up
The costs of looking after pets is on the increase, new figures reveal.
Friday 7th March 2008
Those looking to buy pet insurance may be interested to hear that veterinary fees have increased in the last five years, according to new research.
Routine visits to the vet, which can include procedures such as vaccinations and dental check-ups, have risen in price by over a fifth since 2002, the Society of Practising Veterinary Surgeons found.
Reported by Tesco Personal Finance, the information may be another reason for those without pet insurance to consider buying it as it can help to prevent unexpected medical bills and cover this type of check-up.
Company head Allan Burns said pet insurance is part of keeping furry friends healthy and happy and owners may want to consider purchasing cover to ensure they can provide this care.
"Vets fees are becoming more expensive and it is important to know that in the event of an accident or unexpected illness your pets medical treatment can be paid for."
The news comes as the Peoples Dispensary for Sick Animals revealed new research into the fattest dogs in the UK.
The charity said that it discovered a high number of overweight pets in the Midlands, while the lowest dog obesity figures were found to be in London.
