The Post Office is launching a pre-pay foreign currency credit card in a fusion of its currency exchange and new credit card services.
Teaming up with Visa, the Money Travel Card will enable consumers to top-up with sterling, euros or US dollars.
A trial of the card has already begun and the national roll-out is planned for the end of the year.
There will be a flat charge of £10 for the card, but no top-up charges.
The Post Office says the card offers: "The security of travellers cheques with the convenience of plastic making it a secure, convenient way to carry foreign currency."
Financial service products have become one of the mainstays of the Post Offices diversification strategy.
The European Commission has recently allowed government loans of about £150 million a year to keep the Post Office afloat, following the end of its monopoly over social security and road tax transactions.
