Visa has been named the worlds leading credit card for the ninth consecutive year at the World Travel Awards in Providenciales.
The awards are based on a global poll of travel agencies and acknowledge achievement in all areas of the tourism industry, based on criteria such as service, convenience and distribution. Over 167,000 travel agents in 200 countries took part in this years survey.
Visa was chosen from a shortlist which included American Express, Diners Club, JCB and MasterCard. Its presence in the tourism industry has been boosted by the launch of its online Destinations travel portal offering discounts and special offers to Visa cardholders.
President and founder of the World Travel Awards, Graham Cooke, said: "Our award winners are having a major impact and influence on the worlds travel and tourism industry. They are the true innovators and benchmarks for our trade."
Tom Shepard, executive vice president of global marketing partnerships and sponsorships for Visa International, said the company helps both customers and businesses by "providing merchants with access to millions of Visa cardholders and providing cardholders with unsurpassed acceptance worldwide".
"We are honoured to receive this accolade from one of the industrys most important awards programs," he added.
