Lloyds TSB has encouraged consumers to consider its prepaid Visa card to provide extra security during the half-term holidays.
The advice follows research by the bank which found that many parents are not adequately prepared financially for going away over the break.
A Lloyds TSB study discovered that 41 per cent of parents expect to spend more than they had planned during half-term.
Meanwhile, 17 per cent stated that they have not planned a budget for the week at all.
Jatin Patel, head of travel and international payments at Lloyds TSB, said: "Sticking to a budget can be difficult at the best of times, but when youre on holiday and in unfamiliar surroundings, it can be even more of a challenge."
The bank noted that the card, which may be used wherever the Visa logo is displayed, protects the consumer as it is not linked to a bank account.
Insurance provider esure recently advised parents to check their travel insurance covers items such as digital cameras and memory cards if going away over half-term.
