Airmiles are to challenge in-store rewards as the loyalty card scheme of choice, says Lloyds TSB.
The financial services provider announced this week that it is the new partner for the rewards scheme.
And it has doubled the number of airmiles earned in an attempt to lure customers away from cards which offer in-store benefits.
Colin Walsh, director of credit cards at Lloyds TSB, said: "Airmiles is the most sought-after loyalty scheme and this partnership gives us the opportunity to reward our 16 million customers."
However, credit card comparison figures from lender Goldfish contradict Mr Walshs statement.
The firm found that fewer than one in ten (nine per cent) of UK cardholders seek travel rewards such as airmiles.
The most frequently sought offers were found to be retail rewards such as in-store discounts, with three in ten cardholders opting for such a scheme.
