UK payments association Apacs warns consumers that they could miss repayment deadlines if a planned week-long postal strike goes ahead.

The industry body observes that if the strike lasts as long as planned, there may be no mail delivery until Wednesday, October 10th.

As such, payments on credit card and other bills could be left undelivered until then - potentially missing deadlines.

Consumers are advised to contact their lender in order to discuss alternative arrangements such as paying by phone or online.

Director of communications Sandra Quinn comments: "Your credit card company will be happy to discuss with you suitable payment options which will be unaffected by the postal strikes."

Meanwhile, setting up a direct debit could avoid such issues in future as it does not rely on manual delivery, Ms Quinn adds.

Apacs recently published two guides on selecting appropriate forms of card-based borrowing aimed at young people and their parents.
