Research into the best credit card provider for customer satisfaction has found the John Lewis/Waitrose group named as number one.
The study, by consumer watchdog Which? Money, may be useful for those looking to compare credit cards and find one with effective consumer support.
Some 84 per cent of John Lewis/Waitrose customers were "very satisfied" with the level of service provided by the high street group, with statement clarity and accuracy rated as particularly highly.
This compares to 42 per cent of American Express credit card holders and 38 per cent of Lloyds TSB customers.
Which? Money editor Martyn Hocking said the results showed that supermarket and high street retailers were gaining pace with the more traditional banks.
"When it comes to keeping customers satisfied, John Lewis/Waitrose is leading the field, but Marks & Spencer, Tesco and Sainsburys all fare well too," he said.
Mr Hocking also advised that in order to choose and compare credit cards, it is wise to consider monthly outgoings and spending habits.
Meanwhile, this week saw Which? state that more work needs to be done to ensure that overdraft customers are not affected by changes made by banks in the run-up to a forthcoming test case.
