Lloyds TSB has noted that the number of current account transactions conducted online has tripled over the last 12 months.
Some 68 per cent of current account holders told a Lloyds TSB survey they used online services in 2006, compared to 18 per cent in 2005.
Statistics published by Lloyds TSB show that 89 per cent of people now say they have used the internet to access their current account at some point.
Anita Hockin, head of internet at Lloyds TSB, said: "We now have over four million registered internet banking customers.
"January 2nd was the busiest internet banking day weve ever had with around ten customers logging on every second."
Of those who said they do not bank online, 43 per cent stated that the only reason is that they are already happy with the way they manage their current account.
Lloyds TSB offers 24-hour internet banking and says that a recent survey found that 98 per cent of people saved time by controlling their finances online.
