May 19th marks the deadline for employers to file their tax returns, HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) has pointed out.

In light of the fact, Don Macarthur, head of HMRCs employer team, says: "Dont leave it to the last minute."

Small companies are advised that the process may be easier for them, as they have the option of filing their return online.

Anyone with fewer than 50 employees may do so and benefit from a £100 rebate, HMRC asserts.

However, they could also find they have to take action even sooner, if they are yet to register with the HMRC online pay-as-you-earn (PAYE) service.

The organisation explains that an activation pin must be received to access the PAYE service - which can take up to a week.

HMRC has also announced the launch of a new five-minute podcast providing guidance on the features of child trust funds and the governments £250 contribution to new accounts.ADNFCR-8000200-ID-18576737-ADNFCR©
