Britons reaching retirement may be increasingly expected to emigrate in order to limit expenditure during their twilight years, it has been suggested.
Lisa Harris, spokesperson for Saga Travel Money, claims that moving abroad is currently a relatively unused option.
Instead, she notes that the majority of people moving to cut costs do so within the UK.
But this could change in the future, Ms Harris predicts, as "the dream of retiring abroad has clearly become more realistic".
The rapidly rising cost of living in the UK could drive retirees to consider an overseas experience in their autumn years, she forecasts.
However, those considering doing so are told that their choice of destination is likely to have significant impact on their new-found budgetary requirements.
Destinations such as Spain, she explains, vary in cost depending on the current exchange rate between the pound and the euro, as well as which region of the country the individual moves to.
