Swiftcover has announced it is to widen its range of policies by offering pet insurance online, in a bid to save its customers both time and money.
The new policy, which costs from £45 per year, will protect against illness or injury for cats and dogs as well as providing third-party cover for dogs only.
Swiftcover claimed that pet insurance is "essential" to cover unforeseen medical costs, with vet bills now costing £230 per visit on average.
Andrew Blowers, chief executive officer of Swiftcover, said: "Were a nation thats renowned for our love of our pets and having adequate cover in place to protect against any unforeseen circumstances is absolutely vital."
"I am delighted that we have been able to add pet insurance to our range," he added.
The pet insurance policy has been developed in collaboration with Thornside, a specialist provider of coverage for pets.
Swiftcover says it passes savings on to its customers by eliminating call centres and storing documentation electronically to save on postage costs.
