A growing number of women are reversing the stereotype of car fanatics being men, according to new research.
A report conducted by Mint Loans revealed that one in six women are avid fans of the Grand Prix and roughly one third harbour desires to take to the tracks.
With an increasing number offering to be the designated driver it is advised that women shop around to find their car insurance, searching in particular for the best deals from women-only insurance providers.
"Our research clearly shows that todays woman is taking a keen interest in cars and taking every opportunity to get behind the wheel," said Jerry Toher, managing director of Mint.
"Whats really interesting is that these driving divas are prepared to make major sacrifices in order to finance their cars, whether its cutting back on nights out or downscaling their wardrobe," he added.
Part of the growing interest in motor sports has been attributed to female role models such as Jodie Kidd and Suzi Perry, who have proved that motor sports can go hand in hand with glamour.
