Car insurance provider American Express has revealed concerns over driving conditions ahead of this weekends clock change.
The company is launching its new Drive initiative to give motorists a simple checklist to run through before taking to the road, which notes the added dangers of the early nights.
Joanne Field, marketing manager for American Express insurance services, said: "Whilst 75 per cent of all driving takes place in daylight hours, more than 50 per cent of all fatal accidents occur during the hours of darkness."
"The clock change triggers us into driving in the dark," she added.
With each letter in the word Drive standing for a different issue, the E stands for elements and highlights the dangers of driving in dark, wet or icy conditions.
Meanwhile, R stands for rested, stressing that drivers should take regular breaks and should not start a journey when tired.
American Express car insurance offers up to 70 per cent no-claims discount with a five per cent saving for those who buy online.
