Car insurance provider More Than has announced it is to provide breakdown cover to all new customers as part of its standard policy.
The decision follows research conducted by More Than which showed that nine per cent of motorists are unwilling to pay for breakdown cover on top of car insurance premiums.
Roadside Assistance, More Thans standard breakdown cover, typically costs £30, but the research revealed that 84 per cent of drivers are not willing to pay up to that much.
Mike Holliday-Williams, managing director of More Than, said: "At More Than were always looking for ways we can do more to protect our customers.
"We know that a large number of motorists break down each year, so we wanted to make sure they can get help when they need it most."
More Than predicts that at least one in five vehicles will break down at some point in 2007, despite nine per cent of respondents claiming their cars are reliable and that they do not need breakdown cover.
The insurer claims that customers could save up to £101 by switching to one of its car insurance packages.
