Tesco Personal Finance is offering two months free cover to new customers of its breakdown insurance product.

Motorists who register for the Total Care, Extra Care or Standard Care levels of breakdown cover before June 19th will qualify for the incentive.

The companys car breakdown cover is provided by Green Flag Motoring Assistance, which is one of the top three firms in the breakdown sector.

Allan Burns, head of Insurance at Tesco Personal Finance, urged customers to seek the best combination of quality and cost, as they would when looking for car insurance.

"Many motorists don’t realise that the car breakdown cover is a highly competitive market. We would encourage drivers to look further than the traditional players whose comparable cover can be almost double the price of Tesco," he said.

The announcement follows the claims of green car insurance provider ibuyeco that its premiums can be up to £175.88 cheaper than those offered by other insurers.
