Drivers should compare car insurance policies from a variety of providers in order to get the best deal possible, it has been suggested.
Graeme Trudgill, technical services manager for the British Insurance Brokers Association, warns against purchasing a policy from a company which claims to cater for specialist groups such as female drivers.
"Phone a broker who deals with all the insurers, not just the one that advertises on the telly, and youll more often than not get a better price and better cover," he advises.
"The key thing at the end of the day, whether youre male or female, is always shop around for your insurance."
But he adds that motorists who fall into a category statistically shown to be safer - such as women drivers - may expect to pay less for their car insurance cover as a result.
