New research revealing that Britons have spent £76 billion on creating the perfect kitchen has led for calls for homeowners to reassess their home insurance.
Conducted by Churchill Home Insurance, the study found that each household spends an average of £3,113 on their kitchen.
A total of £486 worth of kitchen utensils could be lying in drawers alone, with electrical products such as washing machines and microwaves soon adding up to thousands of pounds worth of goods that need to be taken into account when assessing home contents insurance policies.
Martin Scott, head of Churchill Home Insurance, commented: "The research shows that the kitchen is full of expensive electrical equipment and accessories so it is imperative that house-holders make sure they are covered against any accidental damage.
"Otherwise, its easy to see how an everyday accident could make a real dent in the household finances."
With one in ten household accidents occurring in the kitchen and average accidental damage claims costing £496, it is vital that people assess the value of their kitchen.
