Bradford & Bingley have announced that for every insurance policy sold they will plant a tree.
Until the end of the year, customers will be able to choose from one of 20 UK forests to dedicate a tree in.
The insurer hopes that the project in partnership with the CarbonNeutral Company - will not only restore the forests to their former glory, but will make a contribution to tackling global warming at the same time.
Dave Foyle, head of general insurance at Bradford & Bingley, said that home, car and travel insurance companies would be able to dedicate a tree somewhere in the UK, thus encouraging bio-diversity and absorbing greenhouse gas emissions.
"I hope that by the end of the year our customers will have dedicated ten of thousands of trees across the UK helping to reforest our great woodlands, which future generations will be able to enjoy," he added.
According to the CarbonNeutral Company, 20 per cent of global CO2 emissions can be directly traced to deforestation.
