Damage caused by the north London tornado will be covered by building insurance policies, according to the Association of British Insurers (ABI).
A statement was released by the ABI following yesterdays severe winds in the nations capital, which witnesses said was a tornado.
The statement said: "Damage caused to homes and any businesses will be covered by buildings insurance."
"Most household policies will cover the cost of alternative accommodation (up to policy limit) if you need to move out of your home," it continued.
Victims of the tornado are encouraged to contact their insurer to see if they can make a claim, with damage to vehicles potentially covered by comprehensive car insurance policies.
Any temporary repairs made upfront may be refunded by insurers on production of a valid receipt, according to the ABI.
The tornado tore down the wall of one house and injured six people, with many more forced to leave their homes and shelter in nearby churches.
Britain is hit by about 33 tornadoes in an average year, according to the Associated Press.
