More Than Home Insurance has issued a list of key points to its customers affected by heavy rains across Scotland.

And it recommends relying on your insurance company for guidance, with its own helplines open 24 hours a day all year round.

Mike Holliday-Williams, managing director of More Than, said: "Our advice to people affected by flooding is to use the skills and expertise of your insurance company."

"Our claims staff are trained to deal with these disasters and will relieve some of the immense stress," he added.

The company highlights the importance of being careful what to touch in the aftermath of flooding.

Electrical items are noted as the highest danger risk, followed by contaminated floodwater and pollution left behind when waters recede.

More Than adds that dehumidifiers should be used to dry rooms out, rather than direct heat sources, which may cause further damage.

Food items may be included in contents insurance from More Than as an optional extra.

Customers with food cover are encouraged to photograph spoiled food items and keep a list to help determine the amount to be paid out.
