Lloyds TSB has revealed it received a 60 per cent increase in building insurance claims during yesterdays storms and is predicting further claims to arrive in the coming days.
Now extra staff are being drafted in to help process the claims, with figures for the year so far 37 per cent higher than forecast, says Lloyds TSB.
With severe weather warnings still in place across many areas of the country, Lloyds TSB is encouraging all homeowners to check the terms of their building insurance to ensure they are not let down if damage does occur.
David Stoddard, head of customer service at Lloyds TSB, said: "The best way to make sure your claim is dealt with quickly and efficiently is to contact your insurer as soon as the damage is done."
"Lines can get extremely busy and were asking customers to be patient," he added.
Lloyds TSB offers its customers an interest-free monthly payment plan to spread the cost of home insurance and building insurance without incurring any extra charges.
