Homeowners should check what their home insurance covers and be prepared to use it, Lloyds TSB Insurance claims.
Following the issue of 29 flood warnings across the country, the firm is not only advising those in the UK to ensure their home insurance is adequate but also issuing a number of guidelines to help people who do need to make a claim.
The suggestions include keeping policy reference numbers close at hand should an emergency arise and making sure not to dispose of any damaged items in case the insurer needs to take them for inspection.
But despite the weather warnings, Phil Loney, Lloyds TSBs managing director, says that with the right preparations, it can be easy to get back to normal after any damage has been incurred.
"If you have been hit by floods, you should get in touch with your insurer straight away," he remarks. "It is often possible to get things back to normal relative quickly."
Homeowners looking to compare insurance covers are not required to purchase buildings and home contents insurance from the same provider.
