A UK-based insurance firm is warning against the dangers of garden thieves.
According to Halifax Home Insurance, homeowners should remain vigilant as last year, claims between March and August for garden theft tripled.
In order to prevent garden theft, Halifax recommends that homeowners take a number of precautions, including locking all external gates, buildings, sheds and garages, in addition to adding bricks to patio units to hinder their removal.
"Homeowners can forget to pay as much attention to security outside the house as they do inside," said Vicky Emmott, senior manager of underwriting, for Halifax Home Insurance.
"With many people realising how much value they can add to their property by improving their gardens, there are now rich pickings for thieves," she added.
Indeed, according to the firm, on average claims were for nearly £400.
Halifax offers a number of different insurance products, including car and buildings insurance.
