Cheaper pet insurance may be only an identity tag away for many Britons, esure suggests.
The insurance provider notes the financial benefits offered by having a pet chipped - as well as the more general advantages.
Spokesperson Asia Manzoor says: "Getting your pet micro-chipped will not only reduce the cost of insuring your dog."
Doing so will also offer peace of mind that "should their beloved pet go astray, the chances of the dog being returned to its owner is much higher", she adds.
Pet insurance can also help to meet the cost of veterinary bills should a loved creature be taken ill, Ms Manzoor asserts.
Without such cover, expenses running into thousands of pounds could be incurred in providing the necessary treatment.
Research carried out by esure previously revealed that one in five pet owners are even more at risk of incurring such costs.
This is by virtue of the fact that those individuals have more than one pet dog in their households.
