The forthcoming World Cup is expected to divide opinion in many households in the UK even down to when and where to take holidays.
According to American Express Travel Insurance, some 12 per cent of people have booked a holiday in a bid to escape the omnipresent football fever expected throughout June.
On the other hand, seven per cent of Brits surveyed said they would be delaying booking their holiday until England had been knocked out to ensure they dont miss any of the action, while two per cent are intent on travelling to Germany to watch some games and soak up the atmosphere.
Whichever of the two camps you fall into, it is important to ensure that you have adequate travel insurance before setting out.
Joanne Field, marketing manager at American Express Insurance Services, comments: "If England gets knocked out of the World Cup we are expecting a rush of last minute bookings. Yet amidst the rush to getaway it is easy to overlook travel insurance.
"Every year one in seven of us risk travelling without insurance – especially to Europe," she added, explaining in terms that most football fans can understand, that single trip cover costs less than a round of drinks at a pub.
"Insurance cover will save time, money and hassle if anything were to go wrong, whether it be a simple handbag theft or an emergency medical repatriation."
Of course, for the estimated 28 per cent who plan to stay in and watch as many matches as possible, insurance will not be an issue!
