Travel insurance provider esure has stressed the need for adequate protection when going abroad.
The advice comes in response to research commissioned by the company, which found 73 per cent of travellers take a digital camera on holiday and 72 per cent will not travel without their mobile phone.
As many as 30 per cent said they take more expensive items such as camcorders when going on vacation.
Jacky Brown, head of travel insurance at esure, said: "Not that long ago filling hand luggage with camera film was a top priority for holidaymakers. Nowadays, all they need to remember is an additional memory card."
She added that "having adequate travel insurance cover is essential for peace of mind" in light of increasing ownership of "desirable and expensive must-have gadgets".
Esure warned travellers not to flaunt expensive items but to keep them in secure storage such as a hotel safe or padlocked bag.
The company says it offers single-trip and annual travel insurance cover, with a 20 per cent discount for new customers ordering online.
