Britons should remember to take out travel insurance when booking their summer holidays in the coming months, advised More Than.

The insurer has revealed that a total of £6 billion was lost last summer through uninsured cancellations.

This accounted for 26 per cent of all More Thans travel insurance claims over the course of the year.

Keira Clark, head of travel insurance at More Than, said: "Many still dont realise that by purchasing their policies late, they miss out on valuable cancellation cover."

"We encourage travellers to arrange their insurance at the same time as they book their break, to ensure theyll be covered if anything goes wrong before the trip," she added.

The firm advises that by taking out adequate travel insurance, holidaymakers can protect themselves against financial losses incurred if illness or bereavement causes them to cancel their journey.

Single trip travel insurance from More Than starts from a price of £8.93, with annual policies from £30.45, the insurer states.
