While many Britons may be used to jetting off to Spain or the south of France for some summer sun, a long-haul vacation could be kinder to their bank balance.

Such is the verdict of Post Office after researching different journeys which consumers could choose to make in the coming months.

Within Europe, the best deals are to be had in countries which have not adopted the euro as their currency, it is revealed.

Destinations such as Bulgaria and Romania are advised to those hoping to remain on the continent while away from home.

However, trips to Thailand, South Africa and Egypt emerge as cheaper on products such as refreshments, sun cream and a typical three-course meal.

Travel head at the firm Helen Warburton says: "Holidaymakers planning trips further afield this year will get excellent value for money by travelling to long-haul destinations."

In its recent What the Pound Buys Abroad study, Post Office found that the currency is now worth more than last year in six of the 20 destinations covered, all of which are long-haul destinations.ADNFCR-8000200-ID-18558137-ADNFCR©
