Sprucing up your propertys garden could add thousands to its value, according to a new report.
Research by Saga Insurance found that most people spend about £500 on the garden when moving in to a new house.
When it comes to selling up, this small investment of funds and labour is found to have added an average £7,500 to the propertys value, excluding the upward trend of house prices.
The survey also discovered that over four out of five Brits rate the garden as a very important feature when looking for a new abode.
"Whether youre improving the kerb appeal of your house in preparation for sale or enhancing your living space purely for pleasure, this research shows that the impact a garden has on both property prices and emotional fulfillment can never be underestimated," commented Andrew Goodsell, Sagas chief executive.
Around a quarter of those asked started replanting the lawn, plants and shrubs as soon as they had moved in, with a new patio proving a popular addition to a house for 28 per cent of people.
