First-time buyers are turning to the internet to find their perfect home, it has been claimed.
According to Halifax Estate Agency, almost half (46 per cent) of under-25s would consult the internet before a local newspaper or estate agent.
A spokesperson for the firm suggests that the information superhighway is "revolutionising the process" by simplifying house hunting.
Colin Kemp, managing director for Halifax Estate Agents, states: "Finding a new property on the internet has certainly increased in popularity."
He adds that the uptake is due to "the ease of searching from your own home and the ability to search thousands of properties at a click of a button".
While first-time buyers were seen to support online house-hunting, less than a tenth (eight per cent) of over-65s said they would use the internet to begin their search.
Utilities comparison service uSwitch.com recently advised that those who have already found their dream home could still save money via the internet by obtaining an online tariff for their gas or electricity.
