Many Britons in debt are being contacted multiple times across different media, according to a mental health association.

This can mean letters, mobile phone and landline calls received from different people or even from different departments, a spokesperson for Mind states.

"Its not just a matter of a letter every week," she stresses.

"People are experiencing phone calls almost as if they were being done on a shift system."

The organisation is now working with banks and other financial services providers to discourage such activities.

Meanwhile, those who are encountering mental health problems associated with their debt are told to contact their lender to tell them of the issue.

According to Mind, some people shut out their debt problems completely if the amount of communication from their lender becomes overwhelming.

Some 91 per cent of respondents to a survey conducted by the organisation also said that their mental health had worsened due to debt.ADNFCR-8000200-ID-18605486-ADNFCR©
