A spokesperson for financial services provider Halifax has warned against building up a serious level of debt.
Gareth Mackie of the organisation notes that rising day-to-day living costs are among the main pressures to householders at the moment.
But he encourages Britons not to rely on credit to meet elevated expenses, but instead to use money which may otherwise have been put into saving accounts.
He contends that, within the rising budgetary demands recently put on Britons, "weve had the likes of council tax bills, petrol prices, things like that".
"I guess if theyre rising, then people would need to tackle those first before looking to put money aside for a rainy day," Mr Mackie adds.
For those who are concerned about their financial situation, he suggests seeking expert assistance before their circumstances become untenable.
He concludes that such guidance should be sought before a "precarious situation" is permitted to develop.
