A large proportion of Brits are turning to alternative pension options due to their distrust of conventional investment routes.
According to Aon Consulting, around 70 per cent of Britons claim to be interested in alternative pension options, as traditional models are viewed with increasing suspicion.
Almost two people in five are thinking of investing in art and antiques, while 31 per cent would be happy to purchase wine and whisky with a view to making a large profit later in life.
Ian Dearnley, Aon Consultings client relationship director, welcomed the news that people are minimising risks by diversifying their portfolios but issued a warning for investors.
"The average UK investor should be wary of directing too many funds towards the latest investment craze of buying signed photos of todays hottest celebrity, or relying on a dusty bottle of Bordeaux to appreciate in value, without initially seeking proper investment advice," he said.
Investments in evergreen forests or a classic car are also being considered by a third of us while nearly one person in three is considering an investment in celebrity memorabilia to boost their retirement pot.
