With Christmas fast approaching Santa Claus will be gearing up for his travels but he would be wise to make sure he is covered before he sets off, in case of any unexpected events while he is making his deliveries around the world - and even while he is at home. With the lifestyle that Santa lives it could prove to be essential for him to avoid being stung financially by an unexpected event. After all, he has a lot of people relying on him.

But just where would a man like Santa begin? Here are a few tips that he could be wise to take heed of before December 24th.

Travel Insurance

An essential for Santa as he dashes from country to country is travel insurance; without it he could face a huge bill which hits him where it hurts financially. A loss of passport or a broken ankle from jumping out of his sleigh would be covered and, should a gust of wind blow off his hat or any of his other personal belongings, then he could sleep soundly in the knowledge that he is covered.

However, if Santa is planning on taking part in any skiing on his travels, then he should compare winter sports insurance options to ensure that he is fully covered for the activities he plans to carry out.

Home Insurance

With Santa spending time away from home over Christmas he should make sure that his home is covered. Nasty weather conditions need not cause the man in red to have a miserable Christmas day and, with a few simple measures, he could protect his home before setting off. Shopping around for the best home insurance deal would be a good start - that way, if the worst happens, he will be covered and will be able to get his belongings replaced. This could prove to be essential with all the valuables in his house at this time of year.

By clearing debris from the guttering that could lead to blockages and ensuring that roof tiles are secure at his North Pole home he could prevent an unnecessary issue occurring.

If his property becomes damaged, however, he should contact his insurer immediately. It may be necessary for an assessment of his house to be made before expensive repair work is done. He should always check with his insurance provider about what needs to be done in the event of a problem occurring.

Life Insurance

Santa isn't getting any younger, and although there seems to be no danger of the worst happening any time soon, he may want to compare life insurance options.

Life insurance could be a good idea if he wants to ensure that Mrs Claus and those that he cares about most are looked after when he's gone, so it could be worth considering.

With a family of elves relying on his income, he may want to consider other insurance options, such as critical illness cover and income protection cover, as a way to make things easier if he becomes unable to continue working.

Health insurance could also be a wise investment as Santa spends a lot of time outside in the cold conditions. So should he fall ill he may want to make sure that he can get treatment as fast as possible.

Car Insurance

Santa may want to ensure that he is fully covered for his travel needs. When comparing car insurance deals he may want to consider that he uses his car a lot for work and has a high annual mileage but, given that his vehicle is relatively old, he could still find himself getting a good deal. He could shop around for the best deal and compare a range of insurers but he may want to take fully comprehensive cover due to his reliance on his vehicle.

Public Liability Insurance

Although Santa is usually pretty careful he may want to ensure that he is covered in respect of his legal liability for injury or damage that could happen to those he is delivering presents to when in the course of his business.

Although surely the festive cheer will mean that Santa is forgiven for any mishaps?
