Post Office has suggested its new One4All gift voucher as an alternative to last-minute savings account raids over the festive season.

It notes that while many people start their Christmas shopping early, some are still to begin and risk costly and stressful swoops on the high street.

The company is recommending that those people head down to their Post Office and purchase a One4All gift voucher instead.

Hugh Stacey, head of gifting at Post Office, said: "The dilemma of knowing what to buy has no doubt encouraged people to make an early start on their Christmas shopping."

His comments follow research from Post Office which showed that 21 per cent of people start their shopping as early as September or October.

And as many as nine per cent claimed to have started their shopping in the January sales.

Post Office also offers saving stamps as an alternative to traditional savings accounts, which may be used to pay bills and for a range of extras for special events such as Christmas.
