More than two million Britons are heading abroad to do their Christmas shopping, new research shows.
Findings from Cater Allen Private Bank indicate 2.2 million consumers will go out of the country as they look to make the most of the presently strong pound and favourable exchange rates.
Some 882,000 people are due to take a trip to New York in an attempt to make advantage of the weaker dollar.
Sally Ann Watts, head of marketing for Cater Allen, said: "Clearly the strong pound is having a real impact on shoppers and many are heading abroad to find a bargain this Christmas and take advantage of the favourable exchange rate with the US dollar in particular."
Meanwhile, 395,000 and 230,000 Britons are to go to Sydney and Paris respectively.
The research also indicated that men are twice as likely to go shopping overseas than women.
An estimated 1.5 million males are set to abroad, in comparison to 754,000 females.
Recent figures by Egg reveal that the average Briton spends £385 on gifts over Christmas, with a credit card one possible of funding such expenditure.
