Carrot Car Insurance
Carrot Insurance began in 2012 with the aim of promoting safe driving. The company was launched by Trak Global, a telematics specialist company looking for innovative ways the motor industry can benefit from technology. The firm, which was founded by Nick Corrie and Alan Cottrill, is based in Crewe, Cheshire, and works with Aviva, Ageas, and Zurich to find policies for its customers. It aims to find low-cost cover that offers the protection drivers need, using telematics to help make the roads a safer place.
There are two different policies on offer at Carrot Insurance: “New Driver” and “Better Driver”, which are both available with third party only cover; third party, fire and theft cover; or comprehensive cover. Although these are both telematics policies, they aren’t just targeted at young or new drivers, despite this being a key target group. Their “Better Driver” policy (which launched in 2015) aims to give all drivers, particularly the more experienced, the chance to get an affordable policy by proving their safe driving habits. Carrot Insurance tries to encourage safe driving by offering incentives, like a range of different gift cards, to drivers who consistently get a green/positive driving score.
The features of a Carrot car insurance policy will depend on which policy the driver purchases and their own specific needs. However, all drivers have the option of purchasing legal cover or breakdown cover to add onto their car insurance policy.
Carrot’s “New Driver” policy uses a traditional black box to measure driving habits, whilst the “Better Driver” policy uses a smartphone app.
