Marmalade Car Insurance

Marmalade Insurance was started back in 2006 by father and son duo Nick and Crispin Moger. The Peterborough-based insurer focuses on providing car insurance exclusively to young drivers, offering black box policies to encourage and reward safer driving. Over time, Marmalade has expanded to include short-term learner driver car insurance to try to give young people, including students, simple and affordable cover both before and after they have passed their test.

Marmalade offers comprehensive and third party, fire and theft car insurance to young drivers. These offer the usual protection: cover for injury or damage to a third party and their property, cover for your own vehicle should it be damaged by fire or theft, and accidental damage cover (for comprehensive policyholders only). In addition to these standard levels of protection, the policies may also come with foreign cover and cover for in-car entertainment equipment, with comprehensive policies also including medical expenses, personal accident cover, personal belongings cover, windscreen cover, and replacement lock cover.

The learner driver car insurance policies from Marmalade offer comprehensive cover, including many of the features that come with the standard young driver policies. It provides temporary cover, with customers able to choose how long they want the policy for. This cover is not for insuring a learner’s own car however. Rather, it is intended to be a short-term policy to cover a learner when they drive another car (with its own insurance policy). If a learner wants cover for their own car, they would have to take out a black box policy.

There is also an option to take out a Named Young Driver policy with Marmalade Insurance, which covers both qualified drivers and learners on a car for which they are not the primary driver (i.e. if they occasionally use a parent’s car).
