M&S Bank Home Insurance
Although Marks and Spencer can be traced back to a Leeds market stall set up in 1884, the financial services branch of the company wasn’t established until 1985. M&S Bank, originally known as St Michael Financial Services, was sold to HSBC in 2004 and is based in Chester. The company started offering home and contents insurance in 2000, and began offering car, pet, and travel insurance a few years later. M&S Bank home insurance is underwritten by Aviva Insurance and gives individuals a choice of standard cover or a more comprehensive policy.
M&S Bank offers both buildings and contents insurance to cover the structure of your home and your personal possessions inside. The policies provide cover in case of fire, flood, subsidence, and storm damage, among other eventualities. M&S Bank gives customers the option of a standard home insurance policy, or a ‘Premier’ policy which is more comprehensive and has higher limits than the standard cover. For example, it may include cover for visitors’ belongings and cover for any children at university. Both standard and Premier policies may have features such as garden contents cover, new for old replacement, at-home pedal cycle cover, and alternative accommodation (if your home is uninhabitable). The exact terms of each policy will be detailed in the relevant insurance documents.
M&S Bank Home Insurance also offers customers some optional additions to their home insurance policy, although some of these may be included as standard in the Premier policy. For example, customers could choose to add accidental cover, contents cover outside the home, legal expenses, and home emergency cover.
