What types of quad bike insurance are available?
Like car Insurance, 'third-party', 'third-party, fire and theft' and 'comprehensive' cover are all available for quad bike policies with the options of 'Social, Domestic & Pleasure', Social, Domestic & Pleasure with commuting' and 'Business' use. Other uses may be available subject to underwriting criteria.
Do I get a discount of on my quad bike insurance if I have limited mileage on my policy?
Usually the lower mileage you have on your policy, the lower the premium will be. Limited mileage policies can offer large discounts however, you must not go over the agreed mileage for the year. If the annual mileage is exceeded, then the insurer could reject a claim, cancel or void the policy.
Can I receive a discount if I am the only driver on the policy?
You can receive major discounts to your quad bike insurance if you keep your additional drivers to a minimum. The more drivers you have on your policy, the higher the premium will be.
I have a high valued quad bike, can I still be insured?
Yes, most insurers will still be able to offer you an affordable quotation regardless on the value of your quad bike. Generally, a quad bike with a higher value will tend to be more expensive to insure compared to a lower valued quad bike. For example, a £1,000 quad bike will usually be cheaper to insure than a £6,000 quad bike.
Can I drive someone else's quad bike on my insurance?
No, most quad bike insurance policies only cover you to drive the quad bike insured. If you are caught driving another quad bike without valid insurance in place, you can receive 6-8 points on your licence, a large fine and even a possible driving ban.
Does the quad bike need to be in my name for me to insure it?
The policy holder of the quad bike must be classed as an insurable interest. For example, you must either be the registered owner/keeper of the vehicle or their parent, spouse, child or commonlaw. Anything else would not be deemed as an insurable interest and would result in a no quote. If someone else besides the policy holder is the registered owner/keeper of the insured vehicle, it can increase the premium.
Do I need business insurance?
If you use your vehicle in relation to work, then you will need business use on your policy. Adding business use onto your quad bike policy does not usually have a big effect on your premium, unless you need to increase your annual mileage as well.
What can affect the cost of my quad bike insurance?
There are many factors which can affect your insurance premium. The most common factors are:
Postcode and Parking:
Your postcode can affect your premium depending on how your address is rated. Generally, the lower amount of crime, accidents and other influences such as flood risks will result in a lower rated postcode, therefore a lower premium.
Parking can greatly affect your premium as well depending on whereabouts you keep your quad bike overnight. For example, if you keep your quad bike in your garage or on your driveway it will be considered as a low risk, therefore a lower premium. If you keep your quad bike on a public road or car park, it can be considered as a high risk, therefore can cause a rise in premium.
Your accident and claims history can greatly affect the premium for your quad bike insurance. Fault, pending and partial claims are all treated the same and can massively increase your annual premium especially if there is more than one within a five-year period. Non-fault and windscreen claims are treated the same and will not normally affect your annual premium for your quad bike insurance. Any accidents or claims that have occurred within five years from your inception date will need to be disclosed to your insurance company, regardless if they are fault or non-fault. Otherwise, the insurer could reject a claim, cancel or void your policy.
There are over a hundred different types of convictions that drivers can receive. The most common convictions issued by the police and DVLA are for speeding, drink/drug driving and using your mobile phone whilst driving. You can receive up to 8 points, a hefty fine and even a driving ban depending on which conviction you get. Every conviction will affect your premium, some more than others.
Age is one of the influential factors when it comes to your annual premium for your quad bike insurance. The older you are, the lower your insurance premium will be. Just as the younger you are, the higher your insurance premium will be.
